Tool Room Machinist  

Job Summary 

 American NTN Bearing Manufacturing Corporation has a full-time direct hire Tool Room Machinist position, located in Elgin, IL. In this position, you will be responsible for setting up and operating conventional, special purpose, and numerical control machines and machining centers; to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts by performing the responsibilities. 

Responsibilities 

  • Read and comprehend various blueprints of finished workpieces. 

  • Measure and scribe dimensions on workpieces as guides for machining. 

  • Align and secure holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials. 

  • Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors. 

  • Start and observe machine operation to detect malfunctions. 

  • Verifies conformance of finished workpiece to specifications. 

  • Documenting in computerized systems. 

  • Setup and operate machines on trial run to verify accuracy of programmed control. 

  • Operate welding equipment to cut or weld parts. 

  • Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers and others to resolve machining or assembly challenges. 

  

Skills and Abilities 

  • Ability to see patterns and make predictions 

  • Mathematical abilities and knowledge 

  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a group.  

  • Ability to use a computer along with the appropriate Microsoft programs. 

  • Ability to read and comprehend various blueprints, sketches, manuals, and specifications. 

  • Ability to use metric and imperial system of measurement. 

  • Ability to re-sharpen drill bits and end mills. 

  • Ability to use hand power tools, gas welding, soldering, brazing, brake press, and shearing machines. 

 

Education and/or Experience 

  • This job requires a high school diploma or general education degree (GED). 

  • Previous welding experience – Arc, MIG and TIG 

  • Previous Autocad or other computer aided drawing experience. 

 

Physical Requirements 

  • Regularly required to stand, walk, and sit; occasionally required to use hands, fingers, be able to handle and feel, reach with hands and arms, talk and hear. 

  • Regularly lift and /or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. 

  • This position requires close & distant vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
